Durability: Sunlight/UV Resistance
Polymers by themselves show only limited resistance against UV, heat and sometimes humidity. In order to have Polymers in longtime applications like sport fields, stabilizer have to be added. A fundamental understanding of the product, its exposure, the desired lifetime and potential negative interactions between components is essential and must be approached scientifically.
In high performance turf fields the yarn is exposed to infill materials. It has been proven that some of these infills interact with the yarn, especially with the added stabilizer, which results in inferior performance of the yarn.
Polytex USA stabilization package has been tested with a multitude of different kind of infill materials. We are able to prove that our yarn is not interacting with infill materials. We have tested our yarn successfully according to ASTM G154 and DIN 75220.
Durability Wear Resistance
For several years we have been collecting the data out of a device called Lisport tester. In the turf market, this test has recently been accepted as the most meaningful test method. Independent testing labs are using this test method as well. The Lisport tester wears the sample by using a combination of rolling and sliding mechanisms on two cylindrical rolls. These two rolls are equipped with the same standardized studs that are used on sports shoes. The machine operates in cycles, and the quantity of cycles is a measure of wear.
Since a field is constantly exposed to both wear and weathering at the same time, both factors should be tested on the same sample. Therefore, our samples are exposed to sun simulation prior testing the abrasion resistance. Only realistic free pile height of the turf/infill system will deliver results relating to real life situations. We always test at a free pile height of 0.8 Inches.
Every 5000 cycles, the misplaced infill is refilled to maintain the free pile height of 0.8 Inches.

This temperature rise can be estimated using a measure called the solar reflective index (SRI). The solar reflectance index (SRI) is used by the U.S. Green Building Council and others to
determine how hot a surface will get when exposed to full sun. The SRI varies from 0 to 100 and is determined using ASTM E1980, “Standard Practice for Calculating Solar Reflectance
Index of Horizontal and Low-Sloped Opaque Surfaces.” Materials with the highest SRI are the coolest.
A SRI Index of higher than 29 is the target.

Introducing the new Star Shape – The best out of the world of Performance and Aesthetics
A modern turf system comprises a turf, a sand infill and a rubber infill. Sometimes it is desired to cover the infill for aesthetic reasons. Usually a wider blade is utilized resulting in lower re-spring performance of the turf, as well as in reduced durability of the turf blades. The newest star design from Polytex is accommodating all desires; while holding up outstanding 55,000 Lisport cycles, its unique star shape lets the blade re-spring again and again. With a width of 1.35 mm the star shape is one of the widest blades out in the market.
